I just checked out a really awesome new website called covet.com. When you first go to the site you immediately start taking a quiz called the Stylizer where you continue to choose between two stylish images until the program has “learned your style.” When you’re done you can look at your results and add more pics until your personal style has been perfected. Then you tell the Stylizer what styles and colors you dislike and the brands you prefer. Finally, you add your budget for each clothing category. When all is said and done, Covet will send you emails daily or weekly to alert you when items consistent with your style and price go on sale either in store or online.

It was really more fun than I thought it would be! I loved choosing between all the fashion pics and editing my style profile! Here’s my results:

Classic Glam

I put a max price on bags and shoes at $250 and tops, bottoms, dresses, etc at $100. The Stylizer knows I don’t like platform heals and turtleneck tops.
Within the next week I should start getting my personalized alerts and I can’t wait to see all the sales!! Try out covet.com’s Stylizer yourself by clicking on the link below. I hope you have as much fun as I did! When you’re done, come back and tell me your style profile. I can’t wait to see!

Top 3 DIY Halloween Costume Vids on Youtube

The one cool thing about the crappy economy is that the average person is forced to get creative! There has been a resurgence of the hand-made arts in the last few years which can bee seen through the multitudes of “Do it Yourself” videos on Youtube. Halloween has always been the ultimate DIY occasion, but this year’s videos seem to be pushing the limits on creativity and resourcefulness than ever before. Here are 3 of the coolest homemade halloween costume videos for 2009.

Petrilude shows us how to apply cosmetics to get a realistic zipper-face zombie look. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can apply the zippers to any part of your body! Then watch Gryphern make large dragon wings that are controlled with your body movements. These are perfect costumes for college students or anyone who needs the extra-cool factor in their costume this year. Finally, check out GiannyL’s insanely resourceful Cat Woman costume made out of a T-shirt and a few things you probably have at home. This would make an ultra easy halloween costume for teens and women.

Okay so you weren’t planning on doing much for Halloween, but at the last minute your friend insists that you go to a party with her. So now you have a few hours to come up with an amazing costume or risk being the party-pooper who didn’t dress up for Halloween.

So what do you do now? Don’t worry, but most importantly, DON’T drop what you’re doing and run to the local mall to buy a last minute costume at a premium price. You can easily make a last minute costume with things you have at home once you have the right inspiration.

Check out the Headlines:

Balloon Boy is the hottest trend in Halloween-wear right now! Just get a silver mylar balloon and a cardboard
moving box and write “I’m doing it for the show” on the side. Anyone who hasn’t been living in a cave for the

Jon and Kate Gosselin were the parents of the year. If you’re lucky enough to own a flashy Ed Hardy T-shirt, just pair it with some jeans an you’re set! Kate will be a little more challenging to simulate, but is well worth it if you are going out as a couple. Ask your friends and family (or scour thrift stores if necessary) if anyone has an old raggedy blond wig- the uglier, the better! Cut the wig to resemble Kate’s trademark hairdo. You could also carry or attach 8 dolls to yourself for added realism and comic relief.

The 1980’s are Back and it’s one of the easiest costumes you could dig out of your own closet! Try the super-easy “hair band” look by pairing ripped jeans with a couple of ripped tees. Don’t forget to tease out your hair!

Dressing up as a hobo or movie star is always a simple classic costume. Just pile on tons of crazy, glam layers for a movie star and several old, oversized jackets for the hobo look.

American fashion legend Michael Kors lead this week’s challenge on season 6, episode 10 of Project Runway, asking the contestants to create outfits inspired by his favorite destinations from around the world. Carol Hannah chose Palm beach, Nicolas went with Greece, Althea with St. Tropez, Irina with Aspen, Gordona with New York, Logan with Hollywood and Christopher chose Santa Fe. Then they were sent to Mood with $150 and given 20 minutes to buy fabric and other necessities.

After toiling on their creations and a reality check by style guru Tim Gunn, the contestestents were whisked off to the runway to be judged by special guest Milla Jovavich. In the end, Irina won with her eighties-style, snow bunny inspired ensemble. Within the allotted time she was able to design chocolate ski pants, an oversized tan cowl-neck sweater with a peek-a-boo back cut out, and a faux fur vest.

Nicolaus Putvinski

Nicolaus and Christopher, who both seem to be hanging on by a thread, were in last place. Nicolaus decided that the rules don’t apply to him and presented the saddest interpretation of Greece I could have imagined. The outfit consisted of a white bandage wrap top and grey skinny-legged pants. Despite the cute pleated detail at the bottom of the pants, this outfit was boring! Guest judge Milla Jovavich said he should have nixed the pants and extended the top into a dress fit for a Greek goddess.

Christopher’s Santa Fe-inspired design looked more like an 1890’s western settler’s futuristic undergarments, than fashionable modern apparel. The dress had a flowy light blue dolman sleeve top with a super short, multi-layered brown skirt. His only saving grace was the patch-worked leather belt that separated all the poofy madness which Milla Jovavich adored.

In the end, Nicolaus was out. Personally, I’m glad to see him go. Aside from his constant disdain for following rules, if I had to see that outdated, oily, Kurt Cobain-esque hairstyle one more time . . . (fill in vile act)

Fashion icon of the 80’s and 90’s Jean Paul Gaultier is revamping his consumer image by designing an economy line for Target. Next spring, we will all have the opportunity to buy a Jean Paul Gaultier original. His products for Target will be available in 250 stores and online March 7 through April 11th, 2010.

Growing up in the 1980’s, and in rural Texas no less, I can distinctly remember the first time I laid my eyes on a bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier perfume. The bottle was shaped like the top half of a woman wearing one of his signature pointy bustiers. I was amazed, shocked, but also excited by the way he could take something that reminded me of my mother, of getting dressed up to go to church on Sundays, of what femininity and womanhood had meant to me up until that time and completely turn it upside down. Even if I couldn’t express, or even completely understand it, that bottle of perfume taught me the concept of sexuality, of the difference between femininity and female sexuality. Since then, Jean Paul Gaultier has continued pushing the envelope, and creating designs that epitomize what it means to be a modern woman.

So finally, we will all be able to afford our own little slice of JPG when his new line comes out at Target.

Just one question . . . Will they be selling his sexy lingerie?
